Hi All! I'm new here. Wondering if anyone is familiar with popping hocks on a horse.

I bought my cutting bred filly two years ago just as she was turning 2 yrs old. So she turned 4 in March. I started her at 2 and hadn't really ridden her hard, mostly just the basics until several months back.

Today when I went out to the pasture to get her for a ride her hind quarters looked different to me. A little more slender behind the flank but I wrote it off to losing a little weight (our rainy season came late and she's tired of hay... she'd rather spend the day nibbling at tiny grass blades than eat her hay. Also we've picked up the exercise regimen).

Anyhow, I was riding and noticed a dip at the rear like her hock was giving out but this has happened occasionally and only at a slow walk when she is "sleepily" walking. When we pick up the pace - trot, lope - I don't notice any problem. Today was the same only I noticed it much more and noticed it while I was leading her back to pasture after our short ride. Worried :o/ Any ideas?

Have you had her looked at by an equine chiropractor or specialist yet? how much did you pick up the exercise regimen? like a little at a time or alot?
